Spirit bears (Ursus americanus kermodei) are only found in the Great Bear Rainforest. The First Nations lore includes the legend that the raven, the creator, made every tenth black bear on one island white as a reminder of the last ice age over 10,000 years ago. Finding the spirit bear requires a mix of an expert First Nations guide (Marvin Robinson), patience and good rain gear.
