Wapusk National Park is home to the most accessible polar denning sites in the world. On their journey back to the coast, polar bear (Ursus maritimus) moms use day dens to rest, often dug from the side of a snow or earth bank. Because of it’s accessibility, the western Hudson Bay polar bear population is the most studied. As a result a high percentage of the bear population are tagged.
