Brave New World

Wapusk National Park sits at the intersection of three distinct biomes; arctic marine, arctic tundra and boreal forest. Access to the park is limited due to it’s extremely rugged terrain, mostly muskeg and wet peatlands. It sits on the traditional territories of many Indigenous communities such as the Cree of York Factory, Fox Lake, Sayisi-Dene and Inuit. The name Wapusk comes from the Cree word for white bear and is home to one of the southern most polar bear (Ursus maritimus) denning sites in North America where pregnant females shelter in earth and snow dens to give birth to the next generation.
